Post Trauma and Post Injury Care of Sport Horses

Thistle Hill Farm offers special post-trauma and post-injury care to the equine sport community. Under the direction of Dr Carol Vischer Safron, injured horses are assessed and treated to insure the best possible outcome for recuperation and reconditioning to facilitate their return to their level of training.

The purpose of Thistle Hill Farm’s special care is to relieve the burden of extra care from an owner and a trainer for a period of time to insure proper healing and reconditioning and then to have the horse return to normal activity and training with the owner and the original trainer. By providing this special service, owners and trainers can have a break from the intensive time and care commitment necessary for post injury recovery at a reasonable cost for the value.

Thistle Hill Farm, located in upstate New York, has a professional full time staff and well equipped facility. Rubber matted box stalls bedded with soft Peat Moss are maintained for the best footing and comfort of horses needing long term stall rest. The indoor arena footing offers a safe and balanced footing for hand walking and riding.

The staff at Thistle Hill Farm has been working with Dr Vischer for over five years. Injured horses are given a personal care giver and a regiment for care is established by Dr Vischer. A daily log is kept for client and veterinary review. Horses are fed four times a day and treated according to their prescription two to three times daily.

Once a horse has recovered, Dr Vischer advises Christine Cornwell, senior instructor and trainer, how to proceed with gradual reconditioning. Horses are brought back to healthy muscle tone and stamina.

Our location in upstate New York allows us to price this service at a reasonable rate but usually less expensively than board fees in metropolitan areas. This insures that your horse can have the best possible outcome because the quality of care and the dedication attention to details is consistent.
