For more than 30 years, Thistle Hill Weavers, the workshop of Rabbit Goody, has been weaving luxurious custom fabrics, carpet and trim for designers, home owners, museums and the film industry.
Today we are one of the last truly custom weaving mills In America.
We specialize in creating accurate historic reproductions, working from surviving examples, documented patterns and period weavers’ drafts. Our work covers a wide range of periods; we’ve recreated early medieval textiles for the film Beowulf and woven custom fabric for modern high-end handbags.
At Thistle Hill Weavers, we weave 17th, 18th and 19th century reproductions of fabrics and trims for museums, homeowners, interior designers, and the film industry.
Our power looms, made by the Crompton and Knowles Company, cast offs from American textile mills, allow us to weave fabrics with true selvedges. And our handlooms allow us to recreate fabrics using techniques utilized in the centuries before.
Thistle Hill Weavers is one of the few mills in the United States that can weave short runs of custom luxury fabrics for clients interested in high end fashion and furnishign fabrics. We work with designers interested in exploring eco-friendly and natural fiber options.
Mill owner, Rabbit Goody, is an internationally-known textile historian, researcher, lecturer, and teacher with more than 40 years in the field. Rabbit has served as a consultant to major museums, weaver’s guilds and the film industry.
We use historical looms and what is considered obsolete museum apparatus equipment in our mill to produce high quality, historically accurate fabrics and textiles.
